Bayern, who have yet to lose in the 2024–25 league, were in control the entire time but were held back by some tenacious defense from their Bavarian neighbors. After a VAR review, the England captain was sent to the spot when the ball struck Augsburg’s Mads Pedersen’s outstretched arm in the box with 61 minutes remaining.

Bayern took the lead thanks to a beautiful conversion from Kane. Following contact from Keven Schlotterbeck in stoppage time, Kane went down in the box, and a VAR review resulted in Bayern being given another penalty.

After missing practice due to a rib injury, experienced goalie and captain Manuel Neuer was allowed to start, giving the German powerhouses a boost before the game. Despite controlling possession and field position, Bayern was unable to make an impact.

Although Augsburg didn’t contribute much offensively, they played strong defense and kept Bayern’s dazzling attacking wealth at bay. Goalie Nediljko Labrovic of Augsburg stayed firm to deny Leon Goretzka and Jamal Musiaia’s first-half attempts.

With 30 minutes left, Augsburg’s determination was finally broken by the Bavarian giants, who were still smarting after losing their first trophy in 11 seasons the previous season. Despite dominating the league, Bayern has had trouble in the Champions League format. After four games, they are in 17th place, six spots behind leaders Liverpool.
